Granny almost misses out on Lottery jackpot cheque after taking dog for a walk

When Gillian Haywood set off to take her friend's dog Eli for a walk she had no idea she would return home £30,000 richer. But that's what happened after her postcode came up trumps on People's Postcode Lottery.

Officials swooped on her street in Church Gresley, Derbyshire, before the lockdown after their postcode DE11 9QL was picked as a winner.

Three addresses were due to receive cheques - but when Gillian, 62, didn't open her door, a frantic search was launched to find her.

Cleaner Gillian recalled: “I was walking Eli, my friend’s dog, when my neighbour’s daughter said there were three winners on the street but the Postcode Lottery team could only find two of them! "Low and behold, I was the other winner they were looking for!
