An infectious disease expert claims the Government recklessly allowed thousands to catch coronavirus during the early stages of the pandemic.
Professor Helen Ward of Imperial College, London, said: "We said lockdown earlier, we said test, trace, isolate. "And they decided they knew better, there will be a reckoning, and it will not be forgiving." Professor Ward told the Mirror the Government's decisions meant the UK "lost sight" of the pandemic.
She claims at least 10 days were lost in the fight for stringent measures, even though it was clear social distancing had to be done.
Professor Ward said that the World Health Organisation and other countries were recommending strict measures while the UK was projecting a "we know better"
