A furious row has broken out over coronavirus food parcels sent for distribution in Rochdale, with the government branding the council leader’s criticism of them ‘misleading’.
Rochdale council chief Allen Brett said government parcels for the most vulnerable were ‘not of the quality expected’ and below the standard of those in other areas.
Coun Brett also said not enough parcels had been received, so the council was having to make up its own - as well as supplementing existing ones to ensure a ‘better choice of items’.
The remarks were made in an official statement which included a picture of the contents of a package received by the council - including tea bags, chocolate bars, individually wrapped biscuits and a solitary apple.
