A giant fanged rat which lived at the time of dinosaurs 66 million years ago has been discovered by scientists in Madagascar.
The animal, named Adalatherium hui meaning Crazy Beast, measures 2ft long and is believed to of weighed 7lbs. It also had an unusual short stubby tail, holes in its badger-like face and fanged teeth.
Scientists found the mammal in Gondwana, Madagascar, and it is said to have been killed in a landslide. Adalatherium would have lived around 70 million years ago among meat-eating dinosaurs and giant constrictor snakes the US palaeontologist team found in the same area.
