Stand-up comic Geoff Norcott has weighed in after claims the BBC have struggled to find right-wing comedians who are ‘funny enough’ for their shows. It was reported this week that new BBC boss Tim Davie has threatened to axe left-wing comedy shows in a bid to present a more balanced corporation.
Shows such as Have I Got News For You and Mock the Week are among those to have received complaints about their jokes against the Tories and Brexit.
An insider has told The Guardian that BBC executives spent the past 18 months piling on the pressure to find Tory-friendly and pro-Brexit comedians.
However, it’s said that producers have found the right-wing comics simply ‘aren’t very good’. Norcott first reacted to the reports yesterday and tweeted:.
