Gary Neville has explained the science behind Sir Alex Ferguson's decision to change Man Utd's kit at half-time during a loss to Southampton.

The Red Devils made the trip to the Saints' former home, The Dell, in April 1996, but found themselves 3-0 down at the break.

Goals from Ken Monkou, Neil Shipperley and Matt Le Tissier had stunned the champions-elect, who were sporting their grey third kit for the occasion.

But United came out for the second half in their blue and white away kit, with Ferguson claiming their original strip had been causing confusion in the first half.
