swimmers were dragged out to sea after getting caught in a rip current at a Scots beach this afternoon. Emergency services raced to Hopeman East Beach in Elgin just after 1pm on Saturday to reports of several persons in difficulty in the water.
Four swimmers were caught in a rip current and were dragged out to sea. Two of the swimmers managed to safely make it back to shore themselves but coastguard rescue officers had to save the other two.
Workers from the Burghead rescue team entered the water and swam through breaking surf to rescue the other two casualties. The Coastguard Rescue Helicopter from Inverness also attended and assessed the swimmers.
