The number of arrests for hate crime incidents more than doubled last season, according to a report from the UK Home Office.
Despite the cancellation of 319 matches and a further 227 behind held behind closed doors due to coronavirus, arrests for racist or indecent chanting rose from 14 in the 2018/19 season to 35 in the 2019/20 campaign.
Those formed just a small chunk of the hate crime incidents reported at 287 matches across the UK. Last season marked only the first time that figures were reported to the UK Football Policing Unit by anti-discrimination body Kick It Out and the Football Association.
