Fireball on M74 leaves Scots lorry melted and charred after blaze shuts down road

M74. A member of the public raised the alarm shortly after midnight on Tuesday when they spotted the vehicle fire near Beattock.

Emergency services, including five fire engines, raced to the scene with crews battling the flames for almost four hours. No injuries have been reported however the road remains closed to allow for recovery of the stricken vehicle.Motorists are being warned to expect delays in the area and to use the signposted diversion.Police Scotland said: “Officers from Road Policing West are currently dealing with an incident involving LGV which caught fire on northbound M74 Junction 14 Crawford.“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have extinguished the fire however the northbound carriageway is still closed at Junction 15.
