The body of 33-year-old Scott Anderton, from Leigh, was found in the Leeds and Liverpool canal near King Street on Thursday morning.
Emergency services had been called at around 7am to reports of concern for the welfare of a man. Police began an investigation and have since revealed that Scott died after suffering 'multiple stab wounds and blunt trauma injuries'.
