Google is celebrating the life of revered French novelist Alexandre Dumas with a doodle serialising one of his best loved works.
The slideshow tells the story of The Count of Monte Cristo - an adventure novel about a man who is falsely accused of treason, arrested on his wedding day, and thrown into a dungeon on the island prison of Chateau D'If.
He eventually manages to escape and re-enters high society under a disguise, as the elusive Count of Monte Cristo. The story tells how he exacts revenge on those he believes responsible for his unjust imprisonment - with devastating consequences.
The book was originally published in Parisian newspaper Les Journal des Débats, in instalments. The first chapter was published on 28 August 1844 - 176
