Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock has opened up on leaving the Reds in the January transfer window 14 years ago for Blackburn Rovers, describing the move as “a no-brainer”.
Warnock came through the academy at Liverpool before cracking into the first-team under Rafael Benitez. His chances were limited, however, due to the prominence of John Arne Riise, who was holding down the left-back position at the time and was something of a cult-hero at Anfield.
After loan spells at Bradford City and Coventry, he decided he needed to move on for the good of his career, despite his love for the club.
