More than 30 flights have been cancelled at Heathrow Airport on Tuesday as disruption continues following an air traffic control issue.

On Monday a technical fault in the UK’s air traffic control (ATC) system grounded and delayed flights across the UK. While the issue is now disruption is expected to last at airports around the country for days as planes and aircrew are out of position.

A Heathrow spokesman said: “Schedules continue to be affected by yesterday’s restrictions on UK airspace. “While the majority of passengers will still be able to travel, there will unfortunately be some disruption on some routes, including flight cancellations. “It is important for all passengers to check the status of their flight with their airline before travelling to Heathrow. An update posted on their website said: "Like all airlines using UK airspace, our flights have been severely disrupted as a result of a major issue experienced by NATS Air Traffic Control on Monday 28 August. "While NATS has now resolved the issue, it has created significant and unavoidable delays and cancellations. "If you are due to fly with us on Tuesday 29 August, please do not travel to the airport without checking the status of your flight, as it may be delayed or no longer be operating.
