Ernst Walder dead aged 94 – Coronation Street legend dies as soap stars pay tribute

CORONATION Street legend Ernst Walder has died at the age of 94. The actor was one of the original cast members of the hit ITV soap and appeared in the very first episodes in 1960.

Walder, who played the role of Ivan Cheveski and later dated one of the show's creators, passed away in September last year.

But his death came to light today after former Corrie writer Daran Little paid tribute. Daran said on Twitter: "Very sad to read of the passing of dearest Ernst Walder. "An original Coronation Street cast member who quickly became Tony Warren's boyfriend before Tony caught him in bed with another cast member.
