It is understood United have struck a deal in principle with Barcelona after De Jong performed a U-turn and agreed to move to Old Trafford.He had been reluctant to join United at the start of this summer due to the club's current struggles and lack of Champions League football.
But he changed his mind when Barca bosses informed him he was being put up for sale and used as a makeweight in their attempts to sign Bernardo Silva from United's neighbours Manchester City.Barca will use the funds raised from the sale of de Jong to finance a £75m deal for Silva, who has told Pep Guardiola he wants a new club and fresh challenge elsewhere.
