Emmerdale has been hit by a fresh racism row after a security guard employed to work on the show was fired. The former military worker was axed by bosses after he was accused of insulting a group of Chinese tourists and allegedly ranting about the Qur’an.Ex-soldier Duane Gardner, 49, was reportedly sacked following a disciplinary panel hearing after the allegations. Two of Gardener's colleagues filed a grievance with management claiming they had heard the Afghanistan war veteran making “offensive and racist” statements in their security office. However, Duane, who has worked on the hit ITV soap for two years has hit back saying he feels “victimised” by the move from his employer. The allegations against him could not be fully proven, and his bosses instead cited that a car crash on set was a reason for his dismissal. The latest controversy comes just months after a race probe took place involving on-screen stars Matthew Wolfenden (TV’s David Metcalfe) and Isabel Hodgins (Victoria Sugden). The pair were both temporarily absent from filming for the Yorkshire based soap while an investigation was carried out after allegations were made of an inappropriate comment being directed towards a female mixed-race member of the cast. The actors both returned to the evening soap after their suspension.ITV chiefs subsequently accepted that the alleged comments had been “misheard” and no formal action was taken against the acting talent.Meanwhile, war veteran Duane, of Harrogate, North Yorks, was brought before the disciplinary panel that fired him from his role by Minimal Risk Consultancy - the security supply business who supplied his contract with the soap.Speaking in his own defence Duane said: “I find it astonishing I was fired when that.
