Elon Musk has claimed that brain chip technology which can cure morbid obesity and tinnitus is “less than five years away”.The inventor and Tesla boss said his brain-machine interface startup Neuralink could allow a computer to directly communicate with the brain and even stimulate its activity.Although the idea sounds far-fetched, Musk is known for pulling off ambitious projects and boffins say the treatment could be feasible.They say Neuralink’s ability to target specific areas of the brain could be used to control the hypothalamus region, which is responsible for appetite.The company’s invention could also help people suffering from brain injuries.Musk said in a TED interview: “The emails that we get at Neuralink are heartbreaking.
