Easyjet has cut more than 1,400 jobs since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, with more cost-saving measures on the cards as it hopes to claw back £40million a week this year.
The budget airline said revenues plunged 88% to £165million over Christmas - typically one the busiest seasons of the year for travel firms.
In a trading update on Thursday, it said passenger numbers dived by 87% on the same period last year. The company said that its cost-cutting efforts, including reduced maintenance and 1,400 job cuts, had reduced its cash burn to £40million per week in a fully grounded scenario.
It comes after the airline warned of plans to axe 30% of its workforce last May. The majority of easyJet's UK-based pilots are now on seasonal contracts.
