Thousands of new universal credit claimants are to get a cash boost from Wednesday, the Department for Work and Pensions has announced.
All claimants who join the six-in-one benefit from another scheme, such as Jobseeker’s Allowance, will get a two week cash flow to help their finances during the transition period.
This one-time payment, known as a run-on, will help people during their first assessment period, and will not have to be paid back.
It's been in place for housing benefit claimants for more than two years - and has benefited around 2.3million people so far according to DWP figures.
