That was the warning during a panel discussion on the Government’s Transport Decarbonisation Plan - due to be published this spring - on how the UK will reach its long-term net zero transport emissions target by 2050.
It follows a Government pledge to phase out the sale of new diesel and petrol cars by 2030 and a push on electric vehicle technology.
Transport, excluding aviation and marine, accounts for one-fifth of carbon dioxide emission, which contributes to global warming.
