Traffic cops backed by neighbourhood officers spent Sunday morning checking drivers on Ashton Old Road in Openshaw. It was part of a national seatbelt campaign and comes after the new chief constable Stephen Watson promised to re-invigorate local policing.

Residents praised the new crackdown after the North Manchester division of Greater Manchester Police posted pictures and details about Sunday's operation, dubbed Op Considerate. "To say we have come across a wide variety of offences is an understatement," said the post.
