Emergency services were forced to launch a desperate rescue operation to save a beloved pet that had been stuck in a sewer for days on end.The crossbreed, called Sophie, had been missing from her home for nearly a month, when emergency services returned the pup to her owner.Sophie was discovered on the UC Santa Barbara campus in California on Thursday, after a passerby heard barking below ground.Firefighters managed to coax the dog to the surface of an 18-inch pipe, using a hose to reach down into the pipe to retrieve it from the sewer.The Santa Barbara County Fire Department said the operation lasted around 20 minutes, and the dog emerged dirty but otherwise, healthy.In an Instagram post, the department said the dog had been spotted on.
