Manchester United fans threw cups, drinks and other pieces of litter at Diego Simeone in a fit of rage after witnessing their side get dumped out of the Champions League to Atletico Madrid.

In the round of 16 second-leg tie at Old Trafford., United opened brightly but soon Simeone’s side turned up the heat and started to threaten at goal.

The La Liga champions finally put themselves ahead through Renan Lodi, with his goa in the first-hald being the deciding factor as Atletico won 2-1 on aggregate.And upon the final whistle, red-faced United fans chucked objects at the away side's manager Diego Simeone has he hastily vanished down the tunnel at Old Trafford.

The referee was the target of fume by supporters - and even the BT Sport commentators Darren Fletcher and Robbie Savage - throughout the night, with Old Trafford in a collective uproar about some of the decisions he made throughout.Tensions were indeed running high but fans online have still blasted the actions of some of those at the stadium.One said: "Football is an emotional game but this is never acceptable." Another joked: "Even the bottles were thrown with inaccuracy - was Rashford throwing them?"Someone wrote: "Careful, Uefa will ban them from next years Champions League, oh wait..."
