Detective who inspired ITV's Honour 'sick to stomach' learning victim begged police to help

When Banaz Mahmod, 20, disappeared in 2006 – after repeatedly telling police her family were going to murder her – DCI Caroline Goode led the investigation to find her. The tragic story is being told in new ITV drama Honour, starring Keeley Hawes as Caroline.

Here, in her own words, the former detective tells her story. I joined the Met in 1981 as an 18-year-old recruit and did my two years probationary period in a very rough patch of South East London.

I moved into the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) – and out of uniform – as soon as I could, and by 2004 I was a Detective Inspector on Homicide Command running murder investigations.
