Debenhams is facing administration, with 22,000 jobs nationwide now in jeopardy. The company, which was once the biggest department store group in the UK, could file for administration as soon as next week in a bid to protect its business from creditors during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Debenhams' lenders took control of the retailer a year ago in an effort to keep the firm - which was started back in 1813 - open.
Last month, Debenhams was forced to close all of its stores because of the coronavirus outbreak. Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that all non-essential businesses should shut in an effort to control the spread of the disease.
