Coronation Street star Ian Bartholomew admitted it was "upsetting" to see his character in action, as he accepted three awards at the Inside Soap Awards this evening.
The 66-year-old actor played the dreaded Geoff Metcalfe, who slowly and cruelly subjected his wife Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) to physical and psychological abuse over the course of a year.
A classic villain, not since the serial killer Richard Hillman, who was played by Brian Capron in the early noughties, has there been a character so detested by Coronation Street fans.
It seemed Geoff had met his fate earlier this year when Yasmeen slashed him in the neck in an act of self-defence, only to be sent behind bars.
