A restaurant is offering free meals to NHS staff on the front line of the coronavirus pandemic as hospitals brace for a rapid increase in cases.

The Gurkha Lounge in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, is keeping a table free for doctors and nurses at this "time of great difficulty".

Their Indian and Nepalese meals will be on the house, but they will have to pay for their own drinks. Last month, an Indian takeaway in Glasgow said it would deliver free meals to people who were forced to self-isolate due to Covid-19.
