Mohammed Ibrahim stands accused of trying to kill the policeman in April last year in a house in Newport, according to Wales Online.
He is also accused of attempting to seriously injure another officer and setting a fire with the intention of endangering life.However, Swansea Crown Court was told that that 34-year-old is unfit to stand a traditional trial, so a jury has the task of determining not his guilt or innocence but instead whether he committed the alleged acts or not.
