Disney+ is attaching content warnings to 18 episodes of The Muppet Show. The series has just been added to the streaming platform but the dated content has been deemed controversial enough to warrant a viewer warning at the start of each episode. ‘This programme includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures,’ it reads. ‘These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now.’ Amongst the issues raised in the recently added content are scenes where Johnny Cash sings in front of the Confederate flag.
The flag of the Southern States during the US Civil War is seen to represent the fight to keep slavery and in more recent times has been associated with the KKK and white extremist groups in the US.
