Carlton Cole thought he had killed Jesper Gronkjaer after "lamping" him in training

The striker, who was 19 at the time, recalled the story on his podcast The Footballer's Guide To Football podcast, saying: "It was getting heated and everyone wanted to win. "I kept on getting kneed in the back by Jesper Gronkjaer, the nicest fella ever to play football.

He's a sweetheart, lovely person, and he's kneed me in my back twice so the third time I've thought 'I'm going to have to deck this geezer'."I've turned around and lamped him on the chin and he went down like a sack of potatoes and I've gone 'wow, I've killed him'.
