Motoring experts have revealed exactly why you should be getting your vehicle serviced regularly.According to a poll posted by breakdown company at RAC on Twitter, the majority of people believe that you need to book your car in for a service once a year.Unlike an MOT, a service isn't a legal requirement.

However, they're vital for making sure your car is in good working condition and for identifying any potential problems. The experts say that a service is essentially a health check for your vehicle, where a mechanic will test all the major components to make sure they're working at their best. Not only can a service increase your vehicle's value, but they're also essential for catching any issues before they cause an accident for you or other road users.

There are three types of service you can get - interim, full, and manufacturer. The type will depend on how many miles you have travelled in the vehicle since your last service – or a set amount of time.Generally speaking, you'll need an interim service around every six months or every 6,000 miles.

A full service is required every 12,000 or 12 months, depending on which comes first. Getting regular services will drastically improve the safety of your vehicle in a couple of different ways.
