West Dunbartonshire MP Martin Docherty-Hughes, who has joined an all-party group of parliamentarians urging chancellor Rishi Sunak to extend furlough - and offer targeted support to the travel industry.
Figures published by the Office for National Statistics last week showed that 57 percent of passenger air transport employees remain on furlough alongside 51 percent of those involved in travel agency and tour operator activities.
A letter, signed by 76 MPs including Martin, warns that with a lost summer season coming on top of the worst fifteen months in the history of UK aviation axing the Job Retention Scheme will lead to the risk of significant redundancies becoming a stark and devastating reality.
