Bundesliga ace Rick van Drongelen has been rushed to hospital after suffering a horror car crash which claimed the life of an 18-year-old male.The Union Berlin centre-back, 23, is currently on loan at Belgian outfit Mechelen and was driving to training on Wednesday morning when the incident occurred.
Van Drongelen's BMW collided with another vehicle on the N258 highway in the Netherlands - just outside his hometown of Axel.The driver of the other vehicle, an 18-year-old man from near Hulst, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.
Dutch police have formally opened an investigation into the accident.Mechelen sporting director Tom Caluwe said: "We extend our sympathies to the victim's family.
We learned that the accident happened when Rick was on his way to training."Rick has been taken to hospital. His injuries don't seem to be as bad as first feared.
