But there was a time when Shields, now 56, was, in her own words, ‘the most celebrated famous virgin in the world’, shocking everyone who had seen her shoot to fame as the 15-year-old girl cast by fashion brand Calvin Klein as a fresh-faced sex symbol who uttered the immortal words, ‘nothing comes between me and my Calvins’.
The advert, shot by Richard Avedon in 1980, scandalised America with its innuendo and sexualisation of the underage Shields.
But as she recalls in a video in which she speaks candidly to Vogue about the experience, ‘I was naive, I didn't think anything of it.
