Britney Spears beats Lady Gaga in shock iTunes chart battle

Britney Spears has trumped Lady Gaga in the most unexpected chart battle of the year after re-releasing a song from four years ago.

Pop legend Britney, 38, raced to the top of the iTunes chart on Friday after shock releasing Mood Ring – a bonus track from her 2016 album, Glory.

Taking to Twitter on Friday, Britney revealed she was re-issuing the song for fans who had been requesting her to unleash more music, with the star obliging by releasing the song which had previously only featured on a Japanese version of her Glory album.

Britney’s surprise release coincided with the release of 34-year-old Lady Gaga’s long awaited sixth studio album, Chromatica, which was also released on Friday.
