Greece could be the next country added to the UK's coronavirus quarantine list after a surge in cases, it was claimed today.
EU figures showed the Greek Covid-19 infection rate almost quadrupled in two weeks. It now appears to be passing the key benchmark of 20 Covid cases per 100,000 people – hitting 21.2 over the last two weeks, according to figures published today.
The rate has raced up since sitting at just 6.1 infections per 100,000 people only two weeks ago. Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has previously said quarantine measures will be triggered against people arriving from nations with more than 20 infections per 100,000, on a seven-day rolling average.
