Britain 'on track to zero coronavirus deaths' despite second wave warnings

The UK may be on track to hit zero excess deaths by the end of June, an expert has predicted. After April saw the deadlines month across England and Wales with 88,000 people dying, almost double the figure for April 2019, the excess death could be falling quickly.

Professor Carl Heneghan speaking Science Media Centre briefing warned that the Office for National Statistics figures are usually a few weeks behind as they take into account all deaths including those in hospital, the community and care homes.
