A 108-year-old Brit believed to be the world's oldest coronavirus victim survived a pandemic 100 years ago that is thought to have killed as many as 50 million people.

The great-great grandmother passed away from coronavirus just days before celebrating her 109th birthday. Hilda Churchill was born in 1911 and lived through the First and Second World Wars.

The Greater Manchester gran also lived through the Spanish flu pandemic, which is estimated to have killed between 17million and 50m people worldwide between 1918 and 1920, reports Cheshire Live.

Spanish Flu affected around a third of the world's population as World War One was coming to its end, and dealt a devastating blow to already weary and traumatised people globally.
