Boris Johnson is poised to oust the UK's most senior civil servant with an announcement due as soon as Monday, according to reports.
Sir Mark Sedwill holds two of the most powerful roles in government, Cabinet Secretary and National Security Advisor, after a 31-year civil service career.
But he was swept into the Prime Minister's sights as part of a shake-up of Whitehall that has long been touted by political aide Dominic Cummings.
Handed the job by Theresa May, Sir Mark has long been viewed with suspicion by Brexiteers and Tories who think he presides over a clunky bureaucracy, including now in the coronavirus pandemic.
