Oscars 2022: Lady Gaga and Spider-Man snubbed as Andrew Garfield nets surprise nomination
Oscar nominations have been announced, with The Power of the Dog leading the way on 12 nods, and plenty of love for Dune, Belfast and West Side Story – but it’s all change in the acting categories. The 94th annual Academy Awards is on Sunday March 27 and set to return in style after the Covid pandemic prevented a normal ceremony from taking place in 2021.The show will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, and will be televised live in the United States on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide.Alongside additions and exclusions for performances, Spider-Man, No Time To Die and Sir Ridley Scott where shut out of main categories, while Being the Ricardos popped up as a contender. Here’s a rundown of the 2022 Oscars’ biggest snubs and surprises…Despite a lot of noise around her performance and a Bafta nomination, Lady Gaga has been dropped from the leading actress category for her bold performance as Patrizia Reggiani in House of Gucci. The film follows the true story of Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver)’s murder and his ex-wife Reggiani (Lady Gaga), who was convicted of hiring the hitman who killed him in 1995 – years after their marriage fell apart. On that note, Sir Ridley Scott saw both of his 2021 films, House of Gucci and The Last Duel, almost entirely shut out by the Academy, save for a solitary nomination for House of Gucci’s make-up and hairstyling (Jared Leto’s physical transformation into the portly, balding Paolo Gucci alone is surely worth the recognition).Leto himself has also missed out on a supporting actor nod, meaning his acting won’t see him in contention for both a Razzie (well, two actually) and an Oscar for the same part. After a kerfuffle with submission for the Baftas, Spider-Man: No Way Home
