Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Boris Johnson backs calls for Premier League statement on failed Newcastle takeover

Boris Johnson has backed calls for the Premier League to release a statement with regards to the failed takeover bid of Newcastle United.

Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), PCP Capital Partners and Reuben Brothers pulled out of their proposed £300m takeover after months of delay.

The consortium - headed up by Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman - were waiting on a decision from the Premier League as to whether they had passed the owners and directors test.

However since the consortium backed out of their bid, the Premier League have remained silent on the matter. Nearly 97,000 people have signed a petition calling for the Premier League to provide some transparency, while 6,000 members of Newcastle United Supporters Trust
