Boris Johnson vows 'full' reopening of schools in weeks despite teacher anger

Boris Johnson has stood by his pledge to "fully" reopen England's schools within weeks despite anger from teachers' unions and fears of a second wave.

The Prime Minister has faced calls from the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) for a Plan B in case there are local outbreaks of coronavirus.

The ASCL said this could include sending some pupils in "one week on, one week off" to reduce transmission in areas where there's an outbreak, as and when needed.

And the Children's Commissioner for England suggested testing all pupils weekly, even without symptoms. But Mr Johnson today gave no guarantees on those plans - and insisted the "crucial thing" was for heads to be “getting ready for a full return to school in September”.
