Chester Crown Court heard how McPhee invited Edwards to his flat in February 2021, before binding his arms with Gaffa tape and parading him around the housing estate where he lived shouting "we've got a thief here."McPhee then dragged his victim back to his flat, the court was told, before beating him with a stick slashing his skin with a knife and pouring bleach into the wounds.Prosecutor Matthew Dunford said McPhee decided to punish his friend after he had admitted stealing and eating a tin of chicken curry from his flat.After luring Edwards to the flat in Knutsford, Cheshire, with a promise of some cider, The Chester Standard reports, McPhee locked the other man in and began the bizarre “punishment”.Mr Dunford said: "He tied his hands with duct tape, before taking him outside.He added: "He paraded him around the estate saying 'we've got a thief here'."He then took him back inside and began beating him with bamboo sticks before he cut him with a knife and poured bleach into the wound."He covered his mouth with duct tape and the ordeal lasted for around two and a half hours."Eventually, after Edwards had begged to be released several times, McPhee let him go.

He warned his victim not to tell the police but relatives of Edwards heard about the incident and contacted the authorities.Richard Conley, defending, said his client had been wearing an electronic tag for almost a year, which has greatly affected his life and made him “a prisoner in his own home”.Mr Conley said: "The incident had taken place after the pair had been engaged in binge drinking.
