An urban explorer has given a look inside one of Liverpool's most iconic buildings decades after it closed its doors. Wellington Rooms was the home of the city's Irish Centre between 1965 and 1997, but has now been left abandoned with much of the decor from its final days remaining in place, Liverpool Echo reports.
The Neo-Classical building was designed by Edmund Aikin and built between 1815 and 1816 to be an assembly room, first used by high society for assemblies, dance balls and parties.
It officially opened as Liverpool Irish Centre on February 1, 1965, with the stage playing host to music and drama performances, while the location was also used by clubs and societies as a meeting spot.
