Rule, Britannia! ruled the airwaves after all tonight as the tune was belted out on the BBC. The song was sung at the final night of the Proms after controversy over whether it would be played this year.
It comes after the BBC reversed its decision about the anthem at the Last Night Of the Proms following a heavily-politicised battle.
People waved EU and Union Jack flags outside the Royal Albert Hall in London as the hotly-anticipated show went ahead. The BBC performed a U-Turn after it emerged it was considering banning son including Rule, Britannia!
and Land of Hope and Glory from being sung this year. Last month, it was revealed the songs could be performed as instrumental arrangements only amid the coronavirus pandemic.
