Astronaut pee could be used to build futuristic space stations on the Moon. European scientists say the out of this world urine can be mixed with lunar dust to create concrete and build bases suitable for human habitation.

And it means settlers won’t have to transport heavy building materials in spaceships taking off from Earth. Space cargo experts say it costs at least £9,000 to transport one small (16oz) bottle of water to the International Space Station in Earth orbit.

A return trip to the moon is much further and needs more rocket fuel and power. But now scientists from the Netherlands, Spain, Norway and Italy say astronaut urine could make moon bases a reality.
