Arsenal are hoping to sign William Saliba's defensive partner at Saint-Etienne in the next transfer window. The Gunners have been poor at the back this season, conceding 36 in the Premier League so far.

Three managers in the shape of Unai Emery, Freddie Ljungberg and Mikel Arteta have failed to find a winning combination at the back.

Though there are signs that under the latter, matters are improving. Shkodran Mustafi, David Luiz and Sokratis have all endured periods of poor form.

But there is optimism over next year with the arrival of Saliba, who was signed last summer but allowed to stay in Ligue 1 for another year to continue his development.
