Arsenal have been accused of making a mistake when they signed William Saliba last summer - by allowing him to head back out on loan.
The Gunners snapped up Saliba for £27million from Saint-Etienne in a quest to solve their long-term defensive woes. But he was immediately loaned back to the French club in a bid to gain experience.
The 19-year-old has impressed in Ligue 1 despite struggling with a number of injuries and is now being expected to be the focal point of Mikel Arteta’s new-look defence next year.
Yet club legend Martin Keown reckons that if Saliba is as good as is being suggested then loaning him back to Saint-Etienne this season was a big mistake.
