Amazon is set to open its first checkout-free supermarket in the UK in posh Notting Hill, according to a leaked plan. The US giant is said to be close to agreeing a deal on the 20,000 sq ft area in west London with developers Enstar Capital.
And in an attack on traditional shops, it will allow shoppers to walk out without paying via hundreds of cameras, sensors and a smartphone app which will automatically take payment.
An Instagram post which was later deleted read: “The first Amazon store in the UK is coming soon and it's coming to our site on NHG.” It is believed Amazon could open the London site as soon as this summer with Morrisons as a potential supplier to its UK shops.
