tot weighed 1lb when he entered the world at 23 weeks. He spent nine months fighting for life and battling lung disease. His mum Megan Mcgee, 19, nestled a teddy bear beside Chay to comfort him while he was in an incubator in intensive care. The soft toy was bigger than Chay.Megan – together with partner Bradley Jefferys, 22 – twice rejected doctors’ advice to turn off their son’s life support.

After 280 days in hospital he was restored to full health and allowed home to be with big brother, Hugo, 18 months. Now nine months old and weighing 13lb, Chay still has the bear, named Bluey – and it’s a firm favourite.Megan said when Chay was born “the teddy was pretty tiny, but Chay was so small it swamped him.

It made us realise just how fragile he was. “It was so scary, Chay was so tiny he could fit in the palm of my hand. “We were told he would never walk, talk, smile but he is now nine months old thriving, feeding –and smiling.”Born last June at Hillingdon Hospital, in Uxbridge, west London, Chay suffered bleeds on the brain and kidney failure.Megan said: “We’ve had a hard time.

He was in hospital nearly a whole year, but now he’s home.”Megan, from Hillingdon, is hopeful he will be able to live a normal life.
